Morocco is the most culturally-different country we have visited. Their customs and lifestyles made us feel uncomfortable at times, yet there were so many interesting things to see and do. Fortunately we hired guides to take us around and help us understand what we were seeing.
Below: We stayed in a 600-year-old hotel in the busy 'medina' area in the city of Fez. Our room was luxuriously remodeled which was quite a contrast from the rest of the medina. The medina dates back 1,200 years and many of the roads and buildings are original. We felt like we had entered a time warp and were living in Biblical times.
Below: Our guide took us on a walking tour through the medina where we saw local craftsmen producing goods like they have for 1,000 years.
Below: The tannery in Fez produces fine leather goods. The workers stand in the colored dying vats as they dye and cut the hides.
Below: We drove through small villages on our way to the Sahara Desert. So interesting! We really enjoyed feeding bananas to wild barbary apes in a mountain area.
Below: The highlight was going on a two-day camel trek into the Sahara Desert.
Below: Here's Jamie with our guide and a young Nomad girl. The Nomad family invited us into their tent for some mint tea.
Below: This Nomad woman is making 'pizza' with thin crust, dates, and a little dirt. We knew people still live like this but it was pretty amazing to see it in person.
Below: For only $2.00 some kids let us hold their pet desert fox (Vulpes zerda).
