The most memorable parts of our trip to Argentina were the polo match in Buenos Aires, and Iguazu Falls in the north.
Below: The polo match was totally awesome. Over 75 beautiful horses participated and we were impressed with the skill of both the horses and the horsemen. The horses seemed to enjoy the game more than anyone.
Below: In Buenos Aires it was common to see people walking five to ten dogs at a time. We're not sure what this is all about - dog-walking service?
Below: Argentina is the birthplace of tango dancing. We went to a show and learned something important: It takes two to tango.
Below: We've visited a lot of cemeteries but none like the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires. There are rows and rows of mausoleums ... like a miniature city ... with the caskets visible inside. Eva Peron is interred here.
Below: The famous opera house (Teatro Colon) is impressive.
Below: Here is the memorial obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires, and a large tree in a park.
Below: Iguazu Falls in northern Argentina is amazing both for the falls and the wildlife in the area. We saw lots of toucans and coatis.
Chile
Below: The 64-story tall 'Gran Torre Santiago' is the tallest building in South America and dominates the Santiago skyline. We enjoyed walking around the city - it is the safest and cleanest city we've seen in South America.
Below: We took a cable car up to a hill which gave us great views of Santiago. There is a monument to Mary at the top.
Below: Santiago is the only place where llamas wear undersized hats, and companies name themselves after famous places.
Paraguay
Below: We never thought of Paraguay as a shopping mecca but it is. Brazillians and Argentines flock into the city of Este to shop. We visited the 'Paris' shopping mall which surprised us at how modern it is.
Below: We toured the enormous Itaipu dam and power-generating station. This facility produces 90% of the electricity used in Paraguay, and 15% of the electricity used in Brazil.
Below: A large family of cacique birds were busy building hanging nests in the trees and feeding their chicks.
We enjoyed our time in these countries and we're really looking forward to what comes next: Patagonia.
