2019 Travels
Sweden, Finland and Denmark
June 2019
We got our fill of castles and churches in these fairytale Scandinavian countries. Stockholm, Sweden was our favorite - we loved the architecture.
Sweden
Below: Photos from our tour of Stockholm.
Below: The 'Vasa' is an ornate wooden ship that sank on its maiden voyage in Stockholm harbor in 1628. The ship and its crew were raised in 1961.
Below: We cruised around on the amphibious 'Ocean Bus.' That was fun.
Below: In the city of Malmo we took a boat ride through the canals and enjoyed the historic architecture.
Finland
Below: Our apartment in Helsinki was a nice home base to see the sites in the area.
Below: Exploring the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress was the highlight.
Below: The 'Temppeliaukion Church,' built in a rock, is rather unique.
Denmark
Below: Copenhagen was delightful and colorful.
Below: Christiania is a 'residential' area for free thinkers and, apparently, budding grafitti artists.
Below: The Royal Castle contains the crown jewels, and quite a few other marvelous works of art.
Scandinavia was nice. Next stop: the Baltic Countries.
