Our visit was a sensory experience. The cities and main roads are crowded with people, traffic is heavy, drivers are aggressive and rush hour is chaotic. On many streets there are no sidewalks which makes it dangerous to walk around. We didn't have any trouble but we were not comfortable on the streets. Where the Philippines shines is on the beaches and in the water. We went snorkeling in three places and had a great time.
Below: The local buses are called 'Jeepneys' and they are usually packed full. They compete on the road with cars, motor scooters, tricycles and animals.
Below: Here is some of the scenery on Cebu Island.
Below: We went snorkeling and saw beautiful corals, sea turtles and lots of fish. That was wonderful.
Below: The highlight was when three whale sharks swam around us. Bill even touched one of them. This was stunning! It was a thrilling nature encounter.
Below: Jamie was a little startled by the approaching giants.
We will always remember the Philippines because of the whale sharks! Next stop: Singapore.
