The American Scene

The American Scene

THE AMERICAN SCENE was a promotional game issued by the American Oil Company in 1969. This was a collect-and-win game with instant winners. With each visit to a participating American Oil gas station, customers received a free game card. Some game cards are instant winners.

The game cards have two sections. One section is a postcard that can be detached and mailed. The other section is a scratch card for playing the game. When the scratch card is scratched, it reveals one of two things; either an instant winner prize or a 'Bonus Coupon' that was intended to be saved. If a player accumulated twelve bonus coupons, they could be redeemed for a small prize. There were 35 different scenic postcards issued in the game.

Instant winner prizes included new Chevy Camaros, Chevy Kingswood Estates, and cash prizes. I have not yet found a definitive list of prizes offered in this game.

Collecting twelve 'Bonus Coupons' won an 18" by 24" American Scene print "suitable for framing." Apparently there were four prints in the set and the prints could be purchased separately.

Glendinning Companies, Inc. produced the game for American Oil.
