For week of 1/7/12: Baling Hay in PA



Would any of you historians like to take a guess what year this photo was taken? ANSWER: June, 2011. This is a typical, modern farming operation in the Amish countryside in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Actually, this is an ultra-modern operation as the hay baler is gas-powered. We made the photo black-and-white and blurred the background to give it that old-time photo look. Click here to see the original version.

Even though we saw many Amish farms and many horse-drawn buggies on the road, we were still amazed with scenes like this. We can’t help but envy the peaceful Amish lifestyle.
