World of Prizes

World of Prizes

WORLD OF PRIZES was a promotional game issued by Cities Service Company in 1964. It was reissued twice - once in 1965 and again in 1966. This was an instant winner game with a sweepstakes element. It offered substantial prizes including cars, boats, and trips to Europe.

With each visit to a participating Citgo gas station, customers received a game card (Citgo calls it a 'Dip Card') with a wash-off area on it. When the card is washed with water (or wiped with a wet rag) it reveals if you are an instant prize winner. Winning cards needed to be mailed-in for redemption.

This was the first 'Instant Winner' game issued by an oil company. The concept was repeated with great success by other oil companies over the next ten years.

The magazine ads below show three iterations of the game which was first released on May 1, 1964.
