Picture of the Week
For week of 12/24/11: Geographic Center of the United States, KS
On a cold, windy December morning we drove out to the middle of nowhere in Kansas and found the marker erected in 1940 identifying the geographic center of the United States. This is the first tourist attraction we've been to where there were
no tourists! Partly because it's December, partly because there's nothing to do anywhere around here, and partly because this
used to be the geographic center. In 1959, when Alaska and Hawaii became states, the geographic center of the United States moved to South Dakota. Road trip!
