Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii
Below: This is the huge (two-mile-wide) Kilauea volcano crater. It is the most active volcano on earth but it was pretty quiet when we were there.
Below: There was only a little lava bubbling up so we went exploring other areas of the park.
Below: The huge lava fields were impressive.
Below: Sorry, road closed! The 1972 lava flow covered the main road so a new road was built on top of the new lava.
Below: We saw many colorful chunks of lava.
Below: There were many plants and flowers growing on the 1969 lava flow.
Below: The ocean fights back against the advancing lava but currently the volcano is winning the battle.
