Lassen Volcanic National Park, California
Below: Lassen Peak, elevation 10,457 feet, from Lake Helen. This volcano last erupted in 1915. According to the rangers it is currently "resting."
Below: A hot, emerald-colored pond with hot moss on it.
Below: We hiked to Bumpass Hell. A very odd thermal feature with a very odd name, sanctioned by the National Park Service (your tax dollars at work!)
Below: At Bumpass Hell there were loud, steaming vents that smelled like rotten eggs really bad.
Below: There were hot, 240-degree boiling mud pots creating acidic creeks.
Below: One of the eerie-gray acidic creeks running through the beautiful forest.
Below: The sulfur dioxide blowing out of the fumaroles creates pure sulfur crystals on the rocks.
